Refugio La Marta

La Marta Wildlife Refuge, created in 1991; this natural sanctuary open to the public is located in the province of Cartago, canton Jiménez, in the district of Pejibaye, in an area where there was great activity by indigenous peoples, Cabécares and to a much lesser extent Bribris. At the end of the 19th century an agro-industrial farm was established here, which after ceasing to exist and with the passing of the years, is today one of the most emblematic wild areas of Costa Rica, not only for its enormous ecological value, but also for all the historical, cultural and mystical background that it treasures within its boundaries.
