Season of 3! Wildlife Wonders

Costa Rica, located in Central America between Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south, covers an area of 51,100 km² (19,730 sq. mi.), roughly the size of Denmark. Renowned for its rich biodiversity, Costa Rica protects approximately 25 percent of its national territory. The country is a haven for resident and migratory wildlife as over 250 seasonal birds, along with thousands of sea turtles and humpback whales, make Costa Rica a critical stopover and nesting site during their epic journeys.

The Green Season, that coincides with parts of the “Wildlife Season,” offers an unparalleled opportunity to witness these incredible migrations. Each year, millions of birds travel from northern regions of North America, to escape the winter, while humpback whales from both poles converge in Costa Rica’s warm waters to give birth and nurture their young. Meanwhile, five of the world’s seven sea turtle species arrive on Costa Rica’s shores, with four nesting along the Caribbean and Pacific coasts.
