“After years of waiting, on Wednesday, April 5th, President Luis Guillermo Solís inaugurated the National Congress and Convention Center, which can accommodate up to 4,600 people, representing an opportunity for Costa Rica to diversify and venture into the tourism industry.
The new building, which cost $35 million and is located in Heredia, occupies 10 hectares of land and has an area of 15,600 square meters.
The National Convention Center was designed to provide different environments for all types of meetings, with fully equipped rooms offering complete and excellent quality service. This infrastructure will promote meetings of people from different parts of the world, who come together with the purpose of building connections, with its fundamental objective being to fill that gap in the tourism industry.
According to data from Mice Consulting, the meetings industry represents 22% of tourism worldwide and generates approximately $11.5 billion. To date, a total of nearly 80 international congresses have been confirmed in Costa Rica between 2017 and 2021, which will generate an economic contribution of around $250 million.”
